I have been reading so much about Williamsburg in Brooklyn lately – which has apparently become the hub of design in Brooklyn and has a thriving art community – also all of its popular design stores are focused in a small area making it so convenient. I love the sound of Loom, Nest and Saved.

Grace Bonney of Design Sponge does a great guide to the area which i’ll definitely be following on my trip there. I can’t wait!

NOTHING beats a cold winters day in Manhattan than a steaming soup dumpling or ten! In a bustling part of Chinatown sits a tiny eatery that has become famous for its delicious dumplings which come in two fillings pork and crab. These tender pouches, are freshly made to order, each plump dumpling contains a little pork or crab meatball surrounded by a gloriously tasty broth. The soup is actually injected inside the dumpling – a very unusual experience. Yum!

Joe Shanghai itself is constantly busy and bustling and serves an array of delicious and unique dishes – one that i really want to try this time is the scallion pancake.

Although i have only visited the store once i have interviewed the lovely owners and feel i know it well – to me this store encompasses my feelings for the city. It represents all that is creative, and quirky about New York, yet has the gentrified and old-fashioned charm that iconifies the city in films.

See my old post to read more about Greenwich Letterpess. But for now i’ll leave you with some pretties…cue Amercian rom-com intro…

‘Thirty dollars pays your rent, on Bleecker Street’…goes the iconic song titled ‘Bleecker Street’ by Simon and Garfunkel – you’d be hard pushed to get a cab from on end to the other for that these days! Bleecker Street is a famous street in Manhattan. The street is a spine that connects the neighborhood popular today for music venues and comedy but was once a major center for American bohemia.

Bob Dylan, Jimi Hendrix, Bruce Springsteen, The Velvet Underground, Woody Allen, Joan Rivers and Bill Cosby all began their careers in a club on Bleecker.

When we visit New York, we stay with my family who live on Bleecker Street, their apartment is on the 17th floor of a block overlooking the NYU campus. I love Bleecker Street – made up of impressive red brick edifices populated with cool cafes and bars. The famous Magnolia Bakery sits at one end whilst a walk down to its middle leads you into the heart of Greenwich Village and the other side takes you straight out onto the gloriously mad Broadway – what more could anyone want from a street?
