The Beat That My Heart Skipped – A blog dedicated to daily design inspirations. By Rohini Wahi.
A blog dedicated to daily design inspirations.
The painterly and folkloric work of Argentinean artist Ana Laura Perez makes me feel languid and spirited all at once. You can tell at once she has a degree in Fashion with her attention to textures and prints and capturing the way hair and fabric moves.
Her inspirations are stated as including ‘color palettes and scales, shadows and light, crystal, old nature, encyclopedias, white and gold, sea creatures, textures and shine, moss, draping, darkness and femininity, and hidden treasures…’
Glorious summery coloured screenprints by London design studio Mengsel Designs. I love the lonely little sail boat at sea being overwhelmed by graphic turquoise waves and the bold repetition of intricately drawn coffee pots below.
London based illustrator, Lucy Vigrass’ work is pretty eye catching, bright neons against dark backgrounds is her style. Although bold and graphic, her imagery however feels like there is constant movement within them – a testament to her subtle composition skills.
I also feel like she has a really strong interiors led side to her work, lots of objects, furniture and design objects appear frequently in her work.
Claire Hartigan illustrates gentle magical scenes – tiny clusters of villages in faraway lands, comical and colourful intricately drawn fish piled up on each other and lovely hand-drawn animals [they are my absolute favourite]. You can buy some of her art from her online shop.
