Cool for Kids

BabyStyleF

Another Stylish Friend shout out is Poppy Norton of the clever clever Baby Style File – who I have never actually met but feel I have known for years through the wonderful Twitter design family. Run by interiors stylist and writer Poppy -  Baby Style File is a godsend for parents who care about well designed children’s products – what did they all do before Poppy’s blog? Begun when she was a new mother and on the hunt for design-led product for her little one the blog focuses on bringing the best in kids’ design to your fingertips.

Meticulously researched, with prices and links provided for everything featured you can search by category to find exactly what you’re looking for. Great stuff!

Stylish Friends

This weekend I slotted in a shiny new addition to the blog’s sidebar – Stylish Friends which will soon be populated by links to just that – super inspirational blogs by people I am so proud to call my friends.

Blogging can often be a lonely [albeit chic] pass-time and after beginning The Beat That My Heart Skipped way back in the summer of 2007 for many years felt like I was kind of doing it solo on the interiors scene… [ this was actually it's original incarnate which had much more of a naive quality about it]. Anyway – these days blogs are as natural an accessory for a creative mind as an iPhone  – and I am so so happy to have some great and talented friends who have jumped on the bandwagon that I can get excited about the power of blogging with and flounce about to events with… and am super proud to add their lovely banners to my sidebar.

JustaLittleJoy

Let me introduce Just a Little Joy by Elle Decoration Homes Editor Tessa Pearson. Started at the beginning of a new year [2012] this blog is a celebration of the small moments in life. Written in a lyrical way that makes you think that life really is ok just the way it is – Tessa with her great eye documents vintage find from her weekends [like stoneware charity shop mugs for 50p that thrillingly look like something you might spot at Anthropologie] and shares foodie discoveries from cosy dinner parties like a quick mid-week Peach Appletini.

What I love about Tessa’s blog is that it is simple and honest and accessible – it makes you realise that life can be inspirational just as it is. Thanks Tessa! : )

ArthurandMartha

My second stylish friend is someone I have introduced before but deserves a second mention. The amusingly titled Arthur and Martha is a super sleek shopping blog by Rachel Ward Chief Sub-Editor at Elle Decoration. Over the years in her role at the magazine Rachel has seen so many design delicacies pass through her desk she has become a quick draw at stripping back the copy to get to the point.

With Arthur and Martha Rachel curates a tight edit of only the newest and most beautiful product she thinks you should know about – a quick hit of ‘interior style for less’ products highlighted by prices and a click through link to buy. She is also great at scouting out items for desperate shoppers so drop her a query at twitter.com/Arthur_Martha [she is going to love me for that shout out : ) ].

Quill and Fox

Who doesn’t love a terrarium? These sweet terrarium illustrated postcards by Oregan based Etsy store Quill and Fox are injecting a burst of spring and Victorian magic into my Sunday morning living room.

Check out the brands other designs – they kind of have a Rifle Paper Co. aesthetic about them – with similar blousy blooms and a gentle colour palette.

Breakfast @ La Fromagerie

Yesterday I had one of my favourite kinds of work meeting – a breakfast meeting. It was in a place that I walk past often in Marylebone but have never had the time or pleasure to visit. La Fromagerie nestled just off Marylebone High Street is a snug and atmospheric cafe and cheese cellar. It’s a space that should feel cold with exposed brickwork and groaning rustic shelves stacked with cheese and bread but is intimate and like stepping into a dark Dutch Still Life – with walls strung with herbs and while globes of cheese wrapped in muslin . The decor is wholesome and simple with the cafe dotted with rustic wood tables and chairs.

We ate not cheese but the most wonderful boiled eggs with pats of salted butter and delicious toasted bread soldiers served in earthy glazed vessels.  Thankyou Flax PR.

Nothing But Navy…

NBN2

Sometimes an email pops into your inbox that just strikes a chord and makes you think ‘how come no one has done this before?. Nothing but Navy is a unisex brand formed by Central Saint Martins graduate Gem Waggett from a love of the colour navy!

It sells a range of carefully selected homewares, limited edition artworks and garments most of which are from independent designer/makers in the UK. Additional items for sale include navy one offs that have been sourced from a range of locations including Paris and America. A number of goods also available are from established brands that produce specific navy items – for example Armor Lux, Falcon Enamelware and Moleskine. All items appear under the NBN umbrella and sit together creating an entirely navy landscape. Prices in the collection range from £1 to £500 – and everything is NAVY!

Following the success of the first Nothing but Navy Pop-up shop in Stroud, Gloucestershire in December 2011 the brand currently exists online at www.nothingbutnavyshop.com. So far NBN has received press in The Financial Times, Selvedge Magazine and Other Criteria.

The brand sell online but will appear at selected pop up venues throughout 2012. If anyone is in London this month head to beautiful Shoreditch boutique Luna and Curious for it’s first navy pop-up running from Friday 30th March to Wednesday 4th April.
