Wall Envy

DwellLiving

We are moving home in January and for years i’ve been thinking about my art wall, but because we have always rented and never really been allowed to have art up, I haven’t collected as much as I would have liked.

These two walls from Dwell Studio catalogue really have me swooning – I love each of the artworks on them – from the simple and emotive black and white print in the first setting to the luscious ochre toned groupings of impressionist works in the second. I’m on the lookout for affordable art right and unfortunately the artwork in these sets aren’t part of the Dwell Studio collection so any similar suggestions would be most welcome!

ShannaDecal

I re-discovered my love of New York based illustrator Shanna Murray’s work the other day. In the last few years, Shanna has very cleverly transformed her chalkboard style illustrations of wild flowers and laurels into poetic wall decals (and stationary) . I’m not a huge fan of decals as I rarely find any that aren’t gimmicky, but Shanna’s lyrical decals have a real sense of timelessness.

There are very few things on this blog that although I love, I rarely buy, but I am moving into my first bought home this year and these little talismans of well wishes are coming with to welcome us into our new home!

P.S Talented Shanna also posts a down-loadable desktop Calendar [usually a collaboration with a photographer]  each month featuring a beautiful illustration. My computer is currently adorned in November which is breathtaking…

Transcience

Transience

transcience_mirror

I feel like there is a shift in interiors where homeware is beginning to gravitate towards the transient and alchemical… using delicate materials and ethereal finishes.

An example that I can’t get out of my head is a series of delicate mirrors by Dutch designer David Derksen. Called Transcience the project shows the beauty of the natural oxidizing process of mirrors. By accelerating and manipulating this process, the mirrors show various stages of oxidation in three different geometrical patterns. Depending on the time that the silver is reacting with sulphur, different colour tones can be achieved, ranging from gold to brown, to purple to blue. I love the silhouettes and ghostly outlines…

Love film

Emma Jeffs

There is nothing like gaining a little more privacy in a busy city is there? These decorative window films by Emma Jeffs are great for just that. These removable films give you privacy without obscuring much needed light and actually transform the room into something quite dreamy! If you have an unsightly view outside your window or just want some privacy in your bathroom from passers by, these pretty designs give the impression of frosted glass.

Available in 6 designs, and in 1 x 1.2 m rolls Emma has suggested offcuts can also be used for glass table tops and glass wardrobe doors.

Zina de Plagny at Surface View

Surface View

Wall wizards Surface View are known for their extensive image library of archived designs with which they adorn walls and windows in your home. We wrote about them here last year.

Their recent addition has me breathless. Surface View have been given access to a beautiful collection of original mid-century textile designs, from the archives of French textile designer Zina de Plagny, prints were created for Parisian couturiers in the forties and fifties. The designs were retrieved from their portfolios last year, after a 60 years’ sleep, when they were revealed to the public for an exhibition.

Through Surface View these rare mid-century designs, can now be applied to wall murals, canvases, blinds and posters. Aren’t they gorgeous? You can see the whole collection here.
