Somehow the festive season and a marked ending of a year brings out sentiment and poetry in all of us. During this time, I’m partial to accessories adorned with whimsical words and phrases that enhance the excitement of the season, warm the cockles and spread good cheer.

Christmas entertaining to me is about building the layers of loveliness – why stop at a delicious cocktail when it can be transformed into a spectacular cocktail once decanted into glittering glasses adorned with merry gilded words. Or make shop bought canapes look even more delicious when they are plucked from side plates to reveal good tidings. Read on for serving platters that make you feel feelings and trivets that inspire in our festive round-up of poetic homeware. (Above image of Canape Plates £4.40 West Elm.)
