Today it is with great excitement that I launch The Beat That My Heart Skipped’s ‘Kids’ category! As I trawled trade show halls, researched emerging brands and explored the best interior stores in every city my job has taken me to over the years, I always hovered tentatively around the edges of the children’s collections. I knew I was drawn to them and they were an intrinsic part of ‘home’ for me but at the time I never had cause to do much with them.
In Paris I found the most humorous yet stylish collections – linen bedding in pastel hues piped with fluro edges, oversized bibs featuring jaunty illustrations smattered with an overprint of metallic polka dots… in Milan – chic and sweet collections of luxury clothing… and in New York everything good and great about American homeware design but tiny… all tiny. So I quietly began to take note of of them… and waited… In the upcoming months I hope to share some of these exciting finds here with you.
This first year of Aarya’s life has opened me up to a whole new world of colourful, irreverent and joyous design and let my imagination work in a way that it has never been able to in other parts of my home. So it is only appropriate that I kick off the inaugural post with a glimpse into Aarya’s room – which has evolved so much over the past year – combining both my favourite brands and homemade items, making it a haven for her to grow and play in.
