Pivot

These ‘pivot’ standing wall cabinets by young Israeli designer Shay Alkalay were launched by Dutch brand Arco at the IMM Cologne furniture fair earlier this year.

There is pure genius in it’s simplicity – the unit rests against the wall and features drawers that pivot open rather than sliding. Unlike usual cabinets, these drawers can hinge, making it possible to open both at the same time – ideal for the morning rush!

They are available in a stunning variety of colours and finishes.

Oka

Goodmorning! In tribute to my travels and our impending summer, I thought I’d take a look at some colonial designs from Oka. I’ve always been drawn to the Oka lifestyle of east meets west, even if it didn’t always fit my city aesthetic – and once I began creating my grandmother’s home in India,  I just couldn’t stop! I love the fresh colours and fabrics teamed with lovingly crafted dark wood furniture, they whisk me off to a faraway time where Indian and English tradition merged charmingly into one.

Right now, I’m probably hovering in the air somewhere over the Indian Ocean reading either Brooklyn, Notwithstanding or my final Sookie Stackhouse novel, whilst keeping one eye on the in-flight entertainment – so this might be a bit surreal to read. Hello down there!

Nevertheless, this does not stop me from blogging till the end of the week [what can I say I'm a woman of routine]! So today, we have not one but two excellent recipes from Louise’s Kitchen – one for moorish Brown Bread Ice-Cream that is fascinating me!

Please excuse any technical difficulties today if there are any, I will not be able to fix them! We will be back on Tues the 6th of April. Till then – enjoy the rest of your Friday!

To Dry For

I absolutely love the huge range of cheery designs at online tea-towel retailer To-Dry For.

With luscious illustrated full-colour designs of anything from giant foil wrapped tea-cakes, and childhood ice-lollies, to pastel scenes of English Summer fetes and tongue in cheek slogans like ‘If You Want Breakfast in Bed, Sleep in the Kitchen’, if anything takes the edge off doing the washing up, this is it!

Their new spring range includes all these bright and bold designs of fruit and veg and summer dreams that fill me with sunshine. I just want to chomp on that giant juicy strawberry!

Wow, how lovely are these vessels from Andrea Walsh? The bottom of each one looks alive and glistening with the slopping about of luscious wet paint, but in fact what we see is glass.

Andrea works with bone china clay combined with paper to create vessels containing glass which is cast directly inside the piece, emulating liquid contained within the form. The glass is meant to resemble water in its stillness and calm. My favourite are the paper cones which look like they are about to ooze out the glass/liquid any second – such a unique concept!
