A Day With… Karin Eriksson

To those who read this blog often, I don’t think I have to tell you who Karin Eriksson is as we feature her wonderful hand painted ceramics so often.

Karin, is one of the designers who’s work made me fall in love with the interiors industry six years ago when I began my journey as naive design ‘aficionado’. So can you imagine what it feels like to have her feature in an article on my blog??? So, so thrilling and awe-striking.

I give you Karin and a day in her work and home life in beautiful Stockholm…

Karin Eriksson

My name is Karin Eriksson, I’m a ceramic designer maker with a background in advertising. I trained at Central St Martins in London and ship most of my work abroad to small independent design and craft shops.

I start my day with a cup of tea, yoghurt with fruit and linseed and the daily paper. Then I move on to the computer to check and reply to emails. One day a week I spend at home doing admin, book-keeping etc, but today is not one of those days.

Karin E

I take the bus, train and a 15 minute walk to my workshop. The whole journey takes about 45 minutes and it’s worth every minute because just look at what welcomes me every day…

Pizza East

Pizza East

Ok, I’m a little slow on this one as people have been raving about this place for months, but I thought I’d share this new East London hot spot’s interior with you today.

Housed on the ground floor of the famous Tea Building, located on the corner of Shoreditch High Street and Bethnal Green Road, Pizza East is a modern take on the pizzeria. The menu features traditional and rustic ingredients, with a progressive approach to gourmet pizza and a commitment to sourcing seasonal and local produce. Pizza toppings include ‘veal meatballs, proscuitto, sage, lemon, parsley, cream’ and ‘prawns, tomato, spring onion, marjoram, chilli’.

The interior design pays respect to the building’s industrial roots, with concrete walls and exposed beams, pipes and pillars. Fresh contemporary touches, such as leather seating and steel refectory tables, complete the look.

I actually think the space looks like an authentic space in Italy, with it’s rustic deli in the corner and retro central bar area. I actually love going to lunch to places like this rather than for dinner – it seems like a wonderful place to sit quietly looking out onto Shoreditch High Street with a good pizza and a strong coffee…

Toast1

Goodmorning! Have you seen these dreamy images from Toast’s new Spring Summer catalogue? They are kind of warm and cool at the same time, I love the painterly hues and soft textures that appear in the walls and curtains and distressed wooden accents.

Up today, a most exciting day with one of the reasons I fell in love with interiors, Karin Eriksson, who takes us around her home and studio in Stockholm at 1pm. Up next a Nomadic Wonderland…

New Home

Hello Jenuine

I love receiving ‘New Home’ cards [we've moved a lot so we have received quite a few]. I especially like whimsical cards that don’t look much like your actual home – these from Hello Jenuine are so sweet.
