I am starting to discover the work of much talked about artist Kathy Dalwood. Kathy is a designer and sculptor specialising in the work of baroque style art and objects. I would imagine that beginning as a scupture artist it’s often hard to navigate away from that fine art label, but Kathy has managed to do this so well!
As with illustrators, I love to look at how a creator’s work can transcend into the realms of interiors and art and design and fashion.
Known initially for her concrete re-casts of porcelain and plaster figurines, Kathy’s style has since been reapplied wonderfully all across the board…
This cast collection of concrete planters by Kathy comprises two distinct ranges – the modernist collection and the baroque collection shown here where trompe ‘oeil designs are cast into the planters.
Contemporary garden urns – the flattened forms are cast in industrial grey or white concrete giving the sculptures an edgy, modern twist.
Kathy designed a range of modernist style tiles and vases for Habitat…
These are the Habitat tiles displayed.
Kathy also creates wonderful public and residential friezes like this one in Cardiff City Hall…
And her work becomes even more magical with these indoor and outdoor urn shaped mirrors! The outdoor mirrors are my absolute favourite, imagine coming across those on a country walk, so surreal and enchanting.
I cannot wait to see what Kathy comes up with next! [I know but can't tell you as yet!]
