Illusions of Grandeur

French Attic

So, I’m really into ‘oversized objects’, infact I think currently the whole interiors world is. The trend is to create interest by incorporating an oversized chandelier, or an oversized vase into a regular space making the interior appear surreal or theatrical – interior designer Abigail Ahern does this particularly well.

This tiny flat in Paris on the other hand doesn’t have to source large scale objects. The one bedroom shabby chic 35 m2 attic is filled boldly with decadent objects that look enormous given the size of the space. Ornate mirrors and grand portraits, marble busts and statement chandeliers jostle cosily to fill the interior.

What I love about this home is that the owner doesn’t try and minimise their furnishings like many would given such a tiny area – but embraces the space’s vintage charm by adding to it.
