Great Loves

Picture 1

Penguin’s ‘Great Love’ series is the perfect gift for this month of romance! A series of 20 titles from the flush of first love in Turgenev’s First Love, to unrequited love in Nabokov’s Mary, from John Updike’s celebration of adultery in The Women Who Got Away to the murderous passions of Tolstoy’s The Kreutzer Sonata, Great Loves is a tribute to the power of love in all its guises, romantic and passionate, deviant and doomed!

In creating the covers, jacket designer David Pearson used an abstract, symbolic approach, taking botany as the chief source of inspiration.

I love the contemporary use of nature in expressing parallels to the type of love in the stories, spiky, flowery, dark and gentle. Buy the whole set here.

I love those covers, who ever said “don’t judge a book by it’s cover!”
