I think I’ve just met my artistic soulmate… Louise Robinson’s illustrates under the banner of Art and Ghosts and creates the most ethereal digital art. Her imagery features wide eyed long haired children and sometimes gentle animals, in supernatural and surreal situations. To me they have a Japanese Manga art quality about them coupled with a whimsical Victoriana narrative.
The images are surreal yet soothing, some are macabre but amusing.
Some are more sweetly sinister than others and I love the intricately woven basis of these stories for eg…
To The Other Side
Louise says ‘These are something of a reaction to many odd, unexplainable experiences that I have lived through. Also somewhat inspired by Picnic At Hanging Rock, a smidgen of Virgin Suicides, and the mood of Katherine Mansfield. They are not concerned with gender or any sort of symbolic ‘fancification’ (for a change!) More literal, really; a party of schoolgirl somnambulists take the plunge. Perhaps they are confused mediums, not knowing what to make of their ‘gift’. Or maybe reality, for them, has far too many constraints. I like to think that I can understand why they are doing it, but I doubt any of us can.’
Louise also creates pretty but ghostly silhouettes…
