Black and white in Old Ghent

OWI Ghent

Dark, glorious, light filled, vintage, industrial, artistic apartment within an old mansion in the old city of Ghent, Belgium. I love the space’s contrast of extreme dark and extreme light. Some beautiful architectural details here – the tall mansion windows, a reflection of traditional banisters by the yellow fridge, and an enormous charred black fireplace…

Blast from the past

Quilt_ikat_a

Oooohhh, coinciding with the V&A’s upcoming exhibition ‘Quilts 1700 – 2010′ the V&A Shop have created a limited edition collection of 18 printed quilting fabrics, which vividly bring to life designs from the quilts on display.

The quilts within the exhibition contain examples of British quilts dating from 1700 to the present day – earliest examples of which include a sumptuous silk and velvet bed-cover, with an oral narrative that links it to King Charles.

The exhibition promises to be a visual encyclopaedia of design, with thousands of minute pieces of fabric reflecting three centuries of pattern and print and so excitingly do the patterns available to buy, Imagine snuggling up to a quilt made of of one of these glorious prints this winter!

Find out more about these wonderful prints here.

Julie has recently given birth to her second child Lucien, it is so nice see that you can still run a successful home business whilst also running a successful family! : ) Over to Julie in France…

Famille Summerbelle

Bonjour/Good morning!

Here’s an example of my day since Lucien was born. He is now 2 months old. We now live in France, near Paris. I work from home where I have a studio at the top of the house.

Famille Summerbelle

7.30am It’s always very nice to wake up on a sunny Monday morning [the weather has been so bad the past couple of weeks!]. Lucien is awake so I feed him, then shower, get dressed and wake Ophelia up (she is 3 years old) and get her ready for school.

Tape

I think we’ve all noticed how popular patterned and coloured masking tapes have been this past year in design and interiors. The tapes are so cheap, cheerful and versatile, and have been showing up in all sorts of interior projects.  This cute and clever book by Getstalten TAPE, An Excursion Through the World of Adhesive Tapes shows the variety of work being done with this material and takes readers on a delightful journey through the world of sticky creativity.

The book features artwork in which tape is used illustratively. Because patterns are a popular theme in design right now, it also presents examples of interiors, fashion, furniture and architecture in which tape is used to create them. The images of the diverse, often humorous artwork and designs are supplemented by texts expounding on adhesive tape’s phenomenal range of application. From the simple and crafty to the insanely epic creation – behold!
