We featured Julie Marabelle of the enchanting Famille Summerbelle in My Inside Life last week, and she joins us this week to share a day in her life. Julie has recently given birth to her second child Lucien, it is so nice see that you can still run a successful home business whilst also running a successful family! : ) Over to Julie in France…
Here’s an example of my day since Lucien was born. He is now 2 months old. We now live in France, near Paris. I work from home where I have a studio at the top of the house.
7.30am It’s always very nice to wake up on a sunny Monday morning [the weather has been so bad the past couple of weeks!]. Lucien is awake so I feed him, then shower, get dressed and wake Ophelia up (she is 3 years old) and get her ready for school.
We all have breakfast together: cereals and a coffee for Simon [my husband and also my business partner] and for me. Simon is away for few days working in London. When he is at home he does the school run!
8.25am Out of the door, Lucien in the pram and we walk to school. We’re lucky, Ophelia’s school is very close from home.
From 8.45 until 11.30am Back home. Second cup of coffee. I switch my Mac book on. This morning i’ll be working on the kitchen table as Lucien fell asleep in his chair when I came back. I start the day checking my emails, replying to orders and so on. I am busy for few hours doing some research for my next collection.
Lucien wakes up a couple of time for feeding so I take the opportunity to have a herbal tea and a little break. Ophelia finishes school at 11.30 so I go back to pick her up with Lucien. Home for lunch. We usually have lunch together with Simon and Ophelia as he works also from home half of the week [he has his own company as well].Today fresh pasta with ham for Ophelia and a leftover homemade soup for me.
1.30 Ophelia goes back to school in the afternoon. Lea arrives to help and spend the rest of the day with me. She will prepare and post the orders, sort out the stock and work on the computer to do general admin work.
I am upstairs in my studio sketching and doing more research for a new print i am working on. I love the research bit. My studio becomes more and more busy with books, photocopies, images.
Once I have all the information I need I start drawing on a large sheet of paper. If I am happy with the drawing I start cutting with a scalpel the intricate illustrations. I love when I am at this stage. I find paper cutting very relaxing.
Some days I’m lucky, Lucien will sleep for few hours next to me while I work… and some days, well I just postpone what I have to do and enjoy time with my baby!
4.30pm I am out again to pick up Ophelia from school. We have a sweet snack: brioche, chocolate for Ophelia and a tea for Lea and myself.
5.30pm Lea finishes her afternoon. I leave my computer and work out of the way as it’s time for bath and dinner.
Once Ophelia is in bed and Lucien settled I usually check my emails, do a bit more work, look at my favorite blogs and I will do a post if i am inspired.
11pm Best moment…bed time!
