A New Addition

Swedish Townhouse

I don’t know what’s more beautiful, this simple, organic creature rising magically out of the ground, or the charming Swedish town it has appeared in.

Swedish architects Elding Oscarson have completed a modern house in a street of traditional terraced cottages in Landskrona, Sweden. The house, which is just five metres wide, fills a gap in the street that has been vacant for over 50 years!

The interior consists of a single space, divided by three steel floor plates creating three levels. The narrow site the home is built on is sandwiched between very old neighboring buildings in Landskrona. The space has been empty since the mid 20th century it, hemmed off only by a wooden fence. It is only 5 meters wide with a tiny area of 75 square meters.

I think what works well to integrate the building into the quaint street is that the other homes that line it also vary in height. Behind the row of buildings is a colorful world of back yards, brick walls, sheds, and vegetation.

I’ll never look at a gap in the street the same way again!

OMG to me that s an eye sore, I’m surprised the neighbours and the council let them build something so different.
Very “clinical” look in and out, not my sty;e, but always interesting to see what people can come up with !! :)

I must admit i did wonder how you get planning permission for something so different – maybe the people of the area embraced the change!
