I am sure many of you must have glimpsed Caroline Swift’s ethereal work before, but I wanted to share her inspirational story with you which you may not have heard.
Caroline had worked in the field of knitwear design for almost twenty years. Having worked in New York, England and Italy as head of knitwear for Benetton she had enjoyed an exciting career designing for different markets from luxury to high street and travelled the world for research.
In 2003, disillusioned with the obsessive pressures to produce unlimited commercial collections she gave up her job and moved to Sri lanka and India to work as a volunteer, teaching English.
On her return to the UK, she wanted to re-connect with the passion that she had previously felt for design.
The desire to make things came back but in a totally un-compromised way. She began designing cakes for magazines and then found she was actually interested in the tableware she presented them on… and so started making them herself!
What a wonderful story don’t you think? Anything can happen – and here we are today graced with Caroline’s delicate talent. All of the pieces shown are made from paper soft porcelain… Caroline also produces dreamy apparel. See the rest of her work here.
