Sometimes I come across an independent artist that absolutely astonishes me. Belgian artist Mitsy creates an array of wonderful ceramic objects – but what caught my eye was her ‘Babusha’ project. These ceramic Babushkas are part of Mitsy’s ‘99 feelings’-project derived from a self-portrait project called ‘how the outside can tell how you feel inside’. The project started out with 9 feelings and developed into 99…
The fact that the number is uneven leaves at least one feeling to complete the 100. That one unfinished feeling to make 100, represents all the feelings not covered and can be anything…
Each adorable ceramic Babushka has a beautifully textured outside with details and features added to a different whimsical emotion. Which one do you identify with?
