I have to admit I’m not the biggest fan of Spanish designer Jamie Hayon and in my opinion his overtly quirky work, but when I came across images of his interiors for the Restaurant La Terraza del Casino in Madrid, I think he may have melted my cold heart.
The sumptuous pale colours, and pillow soft textures, coupled with just the right amount of ‘quirk’ [really not too much at all] is simply breathtaking. Strangely the whole concept has an old fashioned charm attached to it – I can totally see it in a retro bond film can’t you?
There are beautifully subtle details everywhere, pale yellow glass doors, wall to wall beveled diamond mirrors, a high shine harlequin floor. My favorite touches have to be the geometric smoked glass black doors and the perfect heavy pleated curtains…
I can’t get over how tranquil it all seems, just put me to bed right here… Dare I say he’s the Phillipe Starck of our generation?
