In the Dead of Night at the V&A

In the Dead

As many of you may know, on the last Friday of every month, the Victoria and Albert Museum stays open past closing hours till 10pm, and holds an event known as ‘Friday Late at the V&A’. These are topical themed evenings with wonderful performances, Dj’s and a bar where you are invited to run amock through the hallowed halls of the V&A.

Now this Friday at the V&A [tonight] promises to be a masterpiece of the genre as the V&A invites you to join them on the eve of Halloween for ‘In the Dead of Night.’

An evening of performance, screenings and unnerving tales as the V&A explores figures of folklore both east and west. You are invited to witness the Dine with Death promenade performance created by highly acclaimed set designer, Simon Costin.

Explore the history of the vampire through film and learn how to create your own un-dead look!  Unearth ritual and magic during the witch hunts and rediscover fairytale figures with shadow puppet performance and a collaborative block printing workshop.

Uncover the roots of Japanese horror with tales of spirits and possession through curator-led tours and screenings in a newly installed mask display and create your own Japanese lantern. See the full list of events here. Sounds like it will be an AMAZING evening! Admission is free!

Thinking of you

You never know when you might need a card in a hurry, a housewarming, a forgotten birthday, a quick thankyou or just for a kind gesture. We all know nans always keep a card or two handy in case of an emergency… I have certainly been on the receiving end of a few of these cards… it’s the thought that counts!

However I think if you have to receive a random card or two it might as well be one that engages the receiver, otherwise what’s the point right? You want ‘the thought that counts’ to linger.

Pocket Studio produces simple cards that are great to have around for emergencies and yet still feel personal. Blank ‘it’s your birthday’ cards are bold and graphic and an amusing topic of conversation, personalised ‘love from’ cards are sweet and thoughtful, and I just love the bold retro thankyou card and blank gold letterpress bike card…I’m off to order a few and get organised!

The weeks end

Friday
Image from We Heart It

Good morning Friday. I hope you’ve all had a wonderful week, whatever you’ve been doing. Last night I added the finishing touches to my Pumpkin Parcels which I filled with toffee popcorn instead of sweets and drew a few cheeky faces on them! I also decorated my fireplace with a flurry of black bats! Do let me know if you try any of my tricks or treats over the weekend.

I will be pre-scheduling my posts for today as around midday I am heading out to the Essex countryside for what I’m sure will be a magical wedding in this beautiful barn venue. Can’t wait!

For the rest of today, I have some last Halloween treats and inspirations up my sleeve, and of course Louise will be with you at midday for the cutest recipe from Lorna of Love Food.
