‘A house is never still in darkness to those who listen intently; there is a whispering in distant chambers, an unearthly hand presses the snib of the window, the latch rises. Ghosts were created when the first man awoke in the night.’
I found this quote by the captivating JM Barrie over the weekend, and it sent a little shiver down my spine as I imagined the very first man to ever live, opening his eyes one night to discover a startling new world.
This week is hands down my favourite week of the whole year. London looks touched by twilight twenty-four hours a day, and there is a certain expectance in the air. I often wonder why we don’t celebrate Halloween quite as much as our neighbours in the US, I think our defined seasons and dark Dickensian histories are much more receptive to the festival. Oh well – I hope you will help me celebrate this week, I have so much in store; Halloween treat ideas, DIY spooky invitations, and a Halloween themed recipe from Louise. For those of you not so interested in Halloween – we have our usual Makeovers, Interviews [today with Harriet Hastings of the wonderful Biscuiteers] Trends, Book Reviews [ok they're spooky but not directly Halloween related] and a day with the ladies at Luna and Curious! That’s all to come this week!
