Wallpaper, The Ultimate Guide by Charlotte Abrahams

Wallpaper+Girls Guide

Look what beauties I found on my desk yesterday afternoon from Quadrille! I’ve been waiting eagerly to take a peek at stylist and iconic interior designer Abigail Ahern’s new book, ‘A Girl’s Guide to Decorating’ since it was announced. So as soon as I had my hands on it, I sat down right where I was [the middle of the floor – some new books simply demand that] to have a good read… but more on Abigail’s book tomorrow…

I quickly wanted to share with you a book I hadn’t been expecting – ‘Wallpaper, The Ultimate Guide’ by Charlotte Abrahams. A heavy hardback tome – the book jacket has two sides – one covered in contemporary wallpaper and one in a traditional print.

Taking the jacket off I discovered yet another print, a bright yellow graphic wallpaper design which would sit on my bookshelf just as happily without its jacket.

‘Wallpaper, The Ultimate Guide’ showcases contemporary wallpaper in three areas – architectural illusions, fabulous florals, and pasted pictures. Aside from providing a history, tracing movements, and highlighting the current scene, Charlotte has also included large page reproductions so you can get the full effect of these lush papers, plus how to use and hanging tips. All pages are printed in a matt laminate so you get the feel of handling a trendy illustration magazine rather than a fusty wallpaper book.

Featuring the likes of Miss Print, Tracy Kendall, Absolute Zero Degrees, Natasha Marshall, Joceyln Warner, and Timorous Beasties, it’s an archive of our times.
