Illustration Tuesday! Folksy…

I’m dedicating Tuesdays to my illustration obsession. I love dark and humorous art but like uncluttered and minimal walls – so what to do but decorate my blog’s walls with my art of choice?

Discovering great illustration in books pains me as they are essentially my two favorite things in life, and to murderously rip apart a book like a frenzied junky leaves me doubting my very own character…

I’m feeling a bit folksy this week so I thought I’d take a look at some artists who hint at folklore in their work

Anna Emilia’s work in progress  for a book about an Ingrian woman certainly inspires heathen behaviour in me…with it’s cool natural colours and graphic lines she renders the wintry countryside both charming and melancholy. My favourites are her beautiful and texturous grouping of fences and ‘Lilda’s Cabbage Store’ – magical!

I also love these beautifully patterned ladies by Melbourne based artist Catherine Campbell.

And finally an artist that makes me love Autumn even more with her combination of painting and illustrated artwork,  Natasha Newton…
