Marie Desbons

I guess the art of Marie Desbons wouldn’t usually be my art of choice, I tend to prefer more graphic and darker themed illustrations. However on this blustery September day I coudn’t resist a little French whimsy! I also love how extra magical her images look coupled with languid French text. C’est beau!

A Storybook House

Wow.

Clingstone is a faded and shingled 103-year-old mansion set on a rock in Rhode Island’s Narragansett Bay. In it lives Mr. Wood, a 79-year-old Boston architect who bought the house with his ex-wife Joan in 1961 for $3,600. It had been empty for two decades and had been built by a distant cousin of Wood’s who designed a shingle-style house of picture windows, with 23 rooms on three stories radiating off a vast central hall. It reminds me of Aunt Josephine’s house on the cliff in A Series of Unfortunate Events.

What would it be like to live there I wonder? Read more about Clingstone here.

Laila

I have a new cousin and I love her. I have not met her and probably won’t for a long long while as she currently resides in Northampton, Mass. But the magic of technology gives me glimpses into her wondrous new life. She is just one month old and look how animated she is! She looks like she’s trying to talk to me! Hi!

September has snuck up on us so stealthily! How did that happen??? However grim, that snuggly autumnal feeling has invaded my conscious and I find myself watching atmospheric Victorian dramas on TV – Desperate Romantics, Wuthering Heights…reading deliciously dark books that require the accompaniment of endless pots of tea…

So it is no surprise that my September trend seems to be influenced by characterful curios resonant of a more sombre time but humorously so. September I embrace you! (However, I find myself in the dusty Nevada desert at the end of this month…completely putting a spanner in the works for mentally adjusting to a Dickensian winter!)
