I went to the Oxo Tower yesterday for a press event and walked over Blackfriars bridge, i dont think i’ve ever walked that way and the river was so close, it was beautiful, i really felt awed by the sight and really felt the history of our City. I looked like a tourist!
Blackfriars always reminds me of a book called Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, which is set in an alternate London where the names of tube stops and places take on a new significance – Knighstbridge, becomes “Night’s Bridge”, a stone bridge whose darkness takes its toll in human life, and the Angel Islington is a real Angel, and the Black Friars are monks in Blackfriars who guard a special key… all very dark stuff!
