Blackfriars

I went to the Oxo Tower yesterday for a press event and walked over Blackfriars bridge, i dont think i’ve ever walked that way and the river was so close, it was beautiful, i really felt awed by the sight and really felt the history of our City. I looked like a tourist!

Blackfriars always reminds me of a book called Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman, which is set in an alternate London where the names of tube stops and places take on a new significance – Knighstbridge, becomes “Night’s Bridge”, a stone bridge whose darkness takes its toll in human life, and the Angel Islington is a real Angel, and the Black Friars are monks in Blackfriars who guard a special key… all very dark stuff!

I used to work just behind the Oxo tower and walked across the bridge everyday. Always on the left to look at the old bridge and the rail bridge.

Sometime people who work or live in London forget how great it is!
