Audrey Kawasaki is a painter and illustrator known for her ethereal works of oil on wood. Paintings of vulnerable yet seductive girls and women, with graceful curves and haunting dolls faces. The subject looks more like watercolour than oil in my opinion and brings traditional Japanese Art into the 21st Century. I can almost imagine these women in the traditional setting of Japanese Woodblock prints…
Often the women in Kawasaki’s work have their limbs disjointed from their bodies and Octopus tentacles replacing their arms; evoking a curious feeling of intense beauty mingled with slight discomfort as all good art should i think!
Some of the paintings i find mesmerising are Naisho, Ai-Ai, Octo Girls, Swan Girl, Futari, and Hitori
